The Alcatel OmniStack 6124 and OmniStack 6148

are versatile Layer 2 workgroup switches with a

powerful stacking architecture, high-availability

features, and advanced trafﬁc management.

These switches deliver increased scalability,

resiliency, and support for trafﬁc allocation to

COS based on 802.1p and DSCP*.

Increased scalability

The OmniStack 6124 is stackable up to six units

and provides up to 156 ports. The OmniStack

6148 is stackable up to three units and provides

up to 150 ports. A fully conﬁgured stack of

OmniStack 6100 switches provides up to 172

ports. This is achieved with a mixed conﬁgura-

tion of OmniStack 6148, OmniStack 6124, and

uplink modules.

OmniStacks are connected together via stacking

modules and cables. The advantage of stacking

uplink modules over “daisy-chained” ethernet

ports is bandwidth and manageability. These

stacking modules provide 4 Gbps of bandwidth.

The stack management module controls the

entire stack as a single logical unit.

Increased resiliency

The Alcatel 6100 Series now provides a

redundant stacking link conﬁguration to enhance

high availability. This features complements

redundant management and power for high

network availability, a critical characteristic in

converged data/voice and video networks.

The basic function of the management module is

to control a stack of switches as a single entity.
