module increases stack resiliency when failures
occur. These secondary modules receive real
time configuration updates while in standby
mode. If a failure occurs, the entire stack
switches over to the redundant module to
maintain control, even in remote, unattended
networks.
OmniStack also supports a redundant power
supply to keep the switch online in the event of
primary power supply failure.
A redundant stacking link configuration is
implemented by using the new redundant
stacking module and connecting it to OmniStack
Unit 1 (normally the bottom unit in a stack with
primary management module). When any unit in
the stack goes down, another path is configured
to continuously forward packets around
the fault.
Traffic allocation
Traffic allocation to class of service (CoS)
enables more predictable IP traffic delivery of
priority data by assigning different delivery
status for each application at the edge of the
network (OmniStack). Enterprises can classify
mission-critical applications like voice or video
as priority traffic from end-to-end. Other traffic,
like e-mail and web browsing, can be labeled
lower priority. Traffic allocation to CoS is based
on 802.1p and DSCP* for multi-media or real-
time applications.
